Advisory Bodies
The board is the engine that keeps the association running. However, they cannot do this alone, and fortunately they don’t have to! To help them, AEGEE-Groningen has three advisory bodies. The Advisory Board does exactly what the name says: they give advice on all sorts of things. The Audit Commission mainly assists the Treasurer on financial matters. Finally, there is the Juridical Commission which, you guessed it, gives legal advice. On this page you will find a more detailed overview of the advisory bodies and their work. Interested? Be sure to send them an email!
Advisory Board
The helping hands right behind the Board are the Advisory Board (AB). They advise the board in many different areas. If it is about policy, committees, external contacts or whatever you think of, the Advisory Board is there for them. They give solicited and unsolicited advice (it should not be too easy, of course). They meet with the board about once a month, and each board member has a contact person in the AB. The AB also helps put together the new board, so formally they delegate two members to the Application Advisory Committee. Finally, they can act as mediators if there is a conflict within or with the board.
The AB thus has a very diverse portfolio of tasks and is therefore composed of experienced members who have gained a lot of administrative and/or organizational experience themselves. It is important that they know the association well in order to be of the best possible assistance. Currently, the Advisory Board consists of four members:
Astrid Stulemeijer
Arjan Tilstra
Romy Hakkers (chair)
Shenza Gunput

Audit Commission
Are you already getting a rash out of stress at the word finances? You’re not the only one. Fortunately, there is the Audit Commission! The Audit mainly supports the Treasurer of the board. They help the Treasurer with complicated financial matters and support their work as needed. This may include help with the accounting system, the bank or financial policies. Once every one to two months they put their heads together and check all accounting records. This way they make sure that all amounts are correct and errors are discovered in time. At the General Assembly (GMA) they give advice to the members on presented financial documents, so everyone can be sure that everything is in order.
The members of the Audit use their association experience and financial knowledge for all their tasks. Therefore, this committee consists of members with board and/or other practical financial experience, often including former Board Treasurers. Currently, the Audit consists of:
Annemijn Hermsen (chair)
Belinda Schaatsenberg
Cédric Andries

Application Advisory Commission
Would you look at that – it’s February again! Time to look for a new board. Two members of the Advisory Board, the President of the Board, and one more member of the Board are introduced at the Semi-Annual GMA as the Application Advisory Commission (AAC). They get the task of interviewing and selecting candidates for the next board of AEGEE-Groningen! They have a first, introductory meeting with each candidate, after which a second, more serious interview follows. This second conversation is followed by an advice to the candidate by the AAC: positive, or negative. They also give an advice on the distribution of functions among all candidates that want to continue onwards to the GMA.
The Application Advisory Commission 2023-2024 consists of:
Joris Cloosterman – Board (chair)
Jennifer Apell – Board
Romy Hakkers – Advisory Board
Arjan Tilstra – Advisory Board
Do you have questions for the AAC? You can send an email to aac@aegee-groningen.nl.
Juridical Commission
Like any association, AEGEE-Groningen often has to deal with legal questions. Fortunately, the Juridical Committee (Juridical) knows what to do. They help the Board by interpreting the statutes and the internal regulations (IR) and make sure that the GMA runs in a legal manner. In addition, they help the board with legal projects and answer any legal questions they may have.
‘Normal’ members can also ask the Juridical questions. For example, if they have a question about the IR or even want to submit a proposal to amend it. In this way, they make sure that everything within the association runs according to the rules and is fair.
To do all this properly, the Juridical consists of people with legal knowledge and experience. Currently, the Juridical consists of two members:
Charlotte Sousa de Andrade Passos (chair)
Johan Schuringa
