Our European Network
We as AEGEE-Groningen are part of the network of AEGEE-Europe. This network consists of around 120 local branches, also called Antennae, spread from Canary Islands to the Caucasus. The link between AEGEE-Europe and its Locals is established by the Convention d’Adhésion (CdA). Each Antenna has their own structure and board, and organises local and European activities. Alongside Locals, AEGEE has Contacts, who are interested in joining the AEGEE Network, but have not signed the CdA yet, and thus are not officially part of AEGEE yet. On the map below, you can find an overview of all the members of the AEGEE network!
Groningen in the network
The European network gives us a lot of extra opportunities and advantages when traveling through the continent. During our excursions and hitchhiking trips we always try to get in contact with the AEGEE local at our destination for a city tour or a fun night out together. In previous years, AEGEE-Groningen has done an exchange with AEGEE-Warszawa, joined the Batavierenrace with AEGEE-Leiden, to name a few collaborations.
Many locals also organise events open for the entire network ranging from a boat party, to the educational Network Meetings, to the multiple day events surrounding New Years Eve. In Groningen, we also frequently host such events! We used to host a Summer University each year, and last year we organized an event for 25 AEGEEans in Groningen to celebrate New Year’s Eve together. The Nedertop
Since there are a lot of Dutch AEGEE locals (almost every student city has one), we cooperate a lot with them in an informal group called the Nedertop. This is a cooperation between the Dutch speaking locals with the goal of sharing knowledge and strengthening bonds. Four times per year, the boards of the locals meet up for a meeting in one of the cities to discuss recent developments, fundraising cooperations, and thematic topics. Of course, each Nedertop ends with an amazing themed party for all members of the locals! The first Nedertop of the year always takes place in Leiden, and always ends the day with the famous show-your-colour party. We as AEGEE-Groningen always organize the last one, followed by the amazing Uithoekenfeest!
We also organize activities together – with the full Nedertop, or with just a couple of locals. Examples are the Nedertop weekend, and the collaborations between locals in Batavierenrace participation.
