Societies
There are always multiple ways to have fun, this is no different at AEGEE-Groningen! Besides committees, you can also join one (or more!) of our societies. These are groups of members with a shared interest or hobby and have fun with it together. This can be anything you like. Whether it’s about your love for Taylor Swift, Formula 1 or a golden drink, there is something for everyone! The societies share their enthusiasm with the entire association by also organizing open activities and themed get-togethers. So be sure to come check it out. Do you and your AEGEE friends have an idea for a new society? Do you have a new or existing hobby and want to share it with the rest of the association? Good news, you can also start your own society! Come up with your own theme, make your own rules and organize your own activities, you are completely in control. Interested? Cape Numerum
The literal translation for this society is ‘grab a lot’, or as they like to call it themselves: ‘poar neem’n’. With this society, sociability is key, and they are not averse to a drink on occasion. They enjoy sharing this pleasure with beer tastings and an annual trip to the Christmas market in Bremen. Does this pique your interest? You can email them at cape-numerum@aegee-groningen.nl.
Export Enthusiasts
This group of people got to know each other over a special beer…. And the rest is history. The iconic Export beer is how many new members get to know AEGEE during the annual intro camp. A bond created by Export is unbreakable, as is this society. This sociable group of people are always open for a drink, ask them especially about their love for Export during a drink or activity!
Instructions Not Included Society
More popularly known as INIS, this society really loves games. But you know the drill: everyone has their own rules. So, the person hosting the game night sets the rules! Good rule, isn’t it? They also organize open games nights but be warned, some are more fanatical than others. Do you also want to become a member? Then you’ll have to dare to play (and see to win) a game first. (But – beware of the silent game master and his backscratcher…)
Formula 1 Society
What started as a group of friends watching F1 together, drinking something in the process, quickly turned into an official society. On Sundays, they not only watch the F1 races, they also like to have a beer over refreshments. Most importantly, they have tremendous fun! Interested? Be sure to join them for the new season!
Laughs & Crafts Society
The Laughs & Crafts Society is an enthusiastic group of creative minded AEGEEans who gather at least once a month to express their artistic side through different crafts. Whether it’s sipping tea, knitting, crocheting, macramé-ing, claying, or painting, we’ve got it covered! Members share their ideas, skills, and materials in a supportive and fun environment. Our monthly gatherings are all about having fun, de-stressing, and making progress in our works-in-progress (WIPs). Plus, we spice things up with an annual crafty workshop open to all members! So, come hang out with us – we’ll have a big pot of tea ready!
Swiftie Society
Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago… we had never met anybody who had as many Taylor Swift records as us. Soon they found out that there were more Swifties running around at AEGEE-Groningen, so their Wildest Dreams became reality: the Swiftie Society!!! From karaoke to friendship bracelets, they share the Swiftie spirit with all the love (as long as it’s Taylor’s Version of course). Want to experience this chaos for once? Feel free to come, they’ll save you a seat.
In Vino Veritas
Did you say wine? The In Vino Veritas society brings some class to AEGEE-Groningen, with its wine tastings where one can enjoy fine wines and delicious cheeses (as long as it fits in the student budget). This society welcomes all who enjoy a glass of wine – as long as it is not the atrocity called sweet white wine. But beware – later in the evening, when the host of the evening has given their speech, and when red wine has been spilled on the first white shirt, the truth may flow as freely as the wine…
Former Societies
Looking for some more inspiration? Many AEGEE’ers preceded you by founding a society. Even though 8 societies are no longer active over the years, their legacy (and great stories) live on! From the legendary winnings of the Pool Society to the dance moves of the Salsa Society, we want to thank them for their enthusiasm. Now if any of the golden old societies sound good to you, grab your chance and breathe new life into them!
