Summer Universities
What is the best way to really get to know new people and cultures? As a true AEGEEan would say, the answer is: travelling together. The Summer University Project is the perfect opportunity to do all this! During the summer, many AEGEE locals organise a holiday for members across Europe: The Summer University (or SU). An SU, organised for students and by students, is an adventurous and amazing experience.
Summer Universities are full holidays with lots of fun activities, some interesting workshops and, above all, lots of parties! The organisers show you around their cities like a real local. There are interesting workshops on local culture, language, food or topics like sustainability and mental health. In the evening, you explore the great parties the city has to offer. You will do all this with 20-50 people, who will quickly become good friends! And most importantly, it’s very cheap. What are you waiting for! Get ready for the summer of your dreams!
All Summer Universities can be found at my.aegee.eu. Here you will find all the information you need about each SU, such as dates, accommodation and a short description of the activities. During the registration period, you can register for your favourite Summer University. The European Affairs Director will let you know in good time when the registration period is. On the event page of each SU, you will find the ‘My Application’ button, where you have to fill in some questions and write your motivation. After the application period, you will soon hear whether you have been accepted or not. Some SUs also have an open call after the application period. For more information about applying, contact the European Affairs Director.
Frequently Asked Questions
To apply for an SU, you need a MyAEGEE account. To apply, you fill in a questionnaire showing your motivation as to why you would like to go to the event in question and why they should choose you. To create such an account, you need to contact the European Affairs Director at europeanaffairs@aegee-groningen.nl.
Around March, all Summer Universities to be organised are announced. The exact application period varies every year, but it generally falls in the period from April to May. The European Affairs Director will inform you when the exact dates are known.
All SUs are held between June and September. The usual duration is two weeks, but this can vary from one to three weeks depending on the course you choose.
A summer SU costs just €19 per night! Often there is an additional fee of max €40,- for an additional activity, but participating in this is standard practice.
Included in the price is accommodation throughout the event and two meals a day, including at least one hot meal. All dietary requirements will be taken into account. In addition, all transport during the event, tickets to recreational sites, cultural attractions, activities, museums and parties are included in the price!
Travel to and from the Summer University destination is not included. As with all AEGEE trips, you need to arrange your own transport.
The type of accommodation varies from SU to SU. You can sleep in a hostel, on a campsite, in a gym, tent, houses of AEGEE members or student accommodation. You can find all this information on the SU's event page. It also tells you whether you need to bring an air mattress or sleeping bag. If you have any questions, you can always contact the organisers.
Yes, you have to be a member of AEGEE-Groningen to participate in an SU. You have no other obligations within AEGEE association in groningen is also definitely worth a look! To sign up as a member, you can click here.
You can, but you will be selected individually. So, it may be that you are selected and your friend is not, or vice versa. Organisers like to have as many different nationalities and locals at their event as possible, so there is little chance of more people of the same local being chosen for the same event.
