Travel with AEGEE!
As part of a European network, travelling is what AEGEE does best! Every year, six trips are organised by the committees of AEGEE-Groningen. Three of these are excursions to different cities in Europe, and three of them are hitchhike competitions. During all these trips, AEGEE arranges the accommodation, two meals a day, and activities and public transport in the city! All you have to do is make sure you arrive at your destination. This way, you can combine it perfectly with your studies, or maybe even stay a few days longer. And don’t worry, because the committees always inform you about cheap and sustainable travel options!
Of course – we all travel on a student budget, so we always try to make our trips very affordable. Organizing committees take into account the prices of travel options, and the fee for a short trip will never be much more than €60,-.
Excursions
Every year, the Excursion Committee organises three excursions. During these trips, the committee takes you to a city and shows you what it has to offer! The programme consists of activities such as a city tour, museum visit and a beautiful hike, and of course we cannot help but explore the nightlife each night. In addition, we always try to connect with the AEGEE members of that city to get a more local view of the city. They show us their favourite places around the city, or go out with us. Recently, there have been excursions to Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Alicante, Bordeaux and Tirana.
Each year, two of the excursions are short trips from Friday until Sunday, so you can easily combine it with your study schedule. One of the trips is a longer one so we can spend more time exploring the city. Usually, the long excursion is from Thursday to Monday.
Every year we make a visit to the European Parliament during one of our excursions. It is one of the most interesting excursions of the year for European enthusiasts! Often this trip goes to Brussels, but sometimes we visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg. When we go to Brussels, we also visit the headquarters of AEGEE-Europe, where the Comité Directeur (the board of AEGEE-Europe) is located. Like any other AEGEE trip, this one is also not complete without a tour of the city and some sightseeing!
Hitchhike Competitions
During AEGEE’s hitchhiking competitions, you will hitchhike with a partner to a specific destination! This may sound a little dangerous, but the hitchhiking committee will keep an eye on you throughout your entire journey. Two one-day hitchhiking competitions take place, but there is also a two-day hitchhiking competition. During this one the destination is a little farther away, which means that you will have to find a place to sleep for a night. Once all hitchhikers have arrived in the city, the Hitchhike Committee will show you around with a programme they have put together! Previous hitchhiking competitions have taken us to Leipzig, Zagreb, Lille, Cologne, Copenhagen, Amiens and Berlin.
Lustrum Trip
Every five years, AEGEE-Groningen celebrates its Lustrum. Since normally all our trips take place within Europe, every five years we take our members to a country outside of Europe. Because what better way to celebrate the past 5 years than with a unique trip? We always try to make this trip extra special, by for example arranging a trip to the Dead Sea, watching the stars in the desert, or partying the night away on a Felucca on the river Nile.
Previous lustrums took us to Morocco, Israel, and Egypt! Will you be part of our next lustrum trip in 2028?
